reaching, always reaching
i've been listening to sermons by mark foreman, who is jon and tim's dad, and he said something in this one sermon i'm in the middle of that i thought was amusing. he doesn't really talk about jon and tim that much, he mentions switchfoot every once in awhile. anyways, here is what i chuckled at:
pastor mark was talking about spiritual/moral law and why it exists - to show humans what things are bad, and to make them aware of their need for a savior. as an illustration, he likened it to a teenager and his messy room. the teenager might not be aware that anything is wrong with the state of his room. it's when he sees an example of a clean room that he realizes how messy his room is. he then chuckled about how teenagers still might not care, or maybe some of the parents in the congregation had girls or neat-freaks for whom this wasn't a problem.
it's just one of those things we chose to not make an issue after a certain age. it was just, "you know what, let's just forget about it. [pause, audience chuckling...] ...so long as they go to school. you just keep lowering the standard, you know?"
